Word 2004 for mac - when saving it keeps crashing

I just bought a new MacBook with Office 2004 yesterday. Was working in Word
today and in two documents, everytime I tried to save it - it crashed. My
computer originally had a trial version of Office 2004 on it, which I was
told to uninstall - so dragged it to trash, then emptied the trash. Was
there any other way to uninstall this? And could this be upsetting my
installation of the new Office 2004?

If you never ever touched the free trial, you deleted it correctly. If
you ever ran it, even once, then you should have used the Remove Office
Tool.
In the latter case, run it now, then re-install Word and apply all the
updates. There are zillions.
Is it just these two documents that crash Word?

Thanks Elliot.
I have only created two documents so far. I was actually using the invoice
template in the project gallery. I don't think I touched the trial version of
Word, before uninstalling it. Where is the Remove Office tool? Should I try
uninstalling it and then reinstall it?

Don't let Elliott scare you too badly when he writes...

The 11.3.5 update patches everything prior to it and the only one since is
11.3.6, so there are only two updates to apply after reinstalling ;) It's
just that things sometimes seem more plentiful depending on the quality [and
quantity] of port on hand ;-)

No. I think you did it right. The remove office tool at
/Applications/Microsoft\ Office\ 2004/Additional\ Tools/Remove\
Office/Remove\ Office
but you probably don't need it.

see also the readme in the same directory.

Update your version of Office using
/Applications/Microsoft\ AutoUpdate.app
over and over until it stops whinging at you.

and see if Word works any better.

Since you are new to Mac Office, may I recommend
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/WordMacHome.html
as a source of troubleshooting magic and all-round good advice.

Is that Port on hand or in hand. ;)
