Entourage. PPT, Word and Excel error message "An unexpected error occured

A framework error is often caused by a problematic identity, which is
confirmed by your other error message. Simply apply all the latest updates
available for Office 2004 (preferably via Microsoft AutoUpdate in your
Applications folder), and all should be well again.

Did what you suggested, and found the update 11.2.5 but my modem shuts down,
and internet disconnects before the 4 hrs and 55 minutes it takes to download
the update! I have tried different settings but despite 8 tries and lots of
hours...no luck! HELP! Should I try to get somewhere where I am not on dial
up modem to get the update installed. We do not have cable here, and the
phone company also won't provide high speed internet. I work for the State of
Maine, but know that they will not allow me to use their network due to
security concerns and over-spamming....

Hi Carol:

Ewwww.... It's 57.5 MB, it *will* take a while to arrive by dialup.

Yes, I would go to a friends, or to an Internet Café that offers a "High
Speed" connection and try again there. You will need a USB Flash Drive big
enough to store the file.

You should be able to get one at a local computer shop for maybe 20 bucks if
you don't have one already :)

I would be very surprised if the computer people at work would not help you
out by burning the thing to CD if you were to look sufficiently helpless.
Or bribe them: you can't bribe geeks with money, but FOOD works every time
-- anything chocolate :)

Cheers

Hi Hohn ...thanks...and a question:
I thought that I would be downloading to my laptop directly from the web. Am
I wrong? Why would I need a flashdrive if I have my little 13" Mac book with
me?
Thanks

Hi Carol,

John only mentioned a flash drive in case you didn't have a laptop. You can
download updates directly to your laptop. Strongly suggest that you go to
the direct link and download (and then save the file somewhere in case you
need it again) rather than just using Check for Updates to download the
file.

Your MacBook should have wireless built in--you may need to turn it
on--check the Mac Help for that. It's very easy--I've joined open networks
accidentally, without doing anything at all. A café that offers wireless to
its patrons might need to give you a password or something.

I am still struggling to find a free wireless place that is open when I am
not at work. Also, now there is a newer download 11 3 ....guess that I
should use that?

Carol:

Yeah, that's fine.

Ummm... I guess it wouldn't be a strategy to call into an Internet Café
with your laptop and a couple of bucks?

The Internet Café will normally be happy for you to plug your laptop into
their Ethernet cable. And when you do, that 60 MB download will arrive at
five or ten times the speed it will over "free" wireless :)

Don't believe all this puffery about 56 Mbps Wireless. You will be very
lucky if the actual throughput on a "free" Hot Spot gets much above three
megabytes a minute (that'll be a half-hour download...). If you were lucky
enough to find an Internet Café with a 100 MB/s Ethernet, that download
would take just over a minute :)

Cheers
