Word 2004 freezes system when opening Word X documents

Hi,

I've just upgraded to Word 2004 and when I try to open documents
created with Word X the dual G5s go into hyperdrive and freeze up the
whole system. I thought the issue was to do with fonts as I changed
the fonts in a small letter from Franklin Gothic Book (our default) to
Arial and that opened ok. However when I changed them in a previous
document with a bunch of graphics too it froze again. This is really
becoming a pain and I can't understand how Word X worked perfectly on
the machine but Word 2004 doesn't.

Any suggestions would be really great.
