Word 2004 freezes when trying to show the "Drawing" toolbar

Word 2004 (v11.1) seems to constantly freeze when I select
"View->Toolbar->Drawing". After selection of the command, the
"Drawing" toolbar does not appear and Word stops responding.

Trying and showing the Drawing toolbar from the "Customise" menu has
the same effect (Word freezes), but adding icons related to drawing
commands in the "Standard" toolbar is ok and allows me to work with
drawing commands (this, actually, seems to be the only way I have to
access drawing commands).

Must be something really peculiar, as I reckon other users would have
signalled this problem already.

Remark. In the past I experienced "wrong" positioning of toolbars by
Word (the toolbars would appear at the very edges of the screen). May
the problem be related to the coordinates where Word tries to show the
drawing toolbar?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion/help/hint.

Hi Adolfo,

I just tested on my system and the Drawing Toolbar opens instantly with no
problems. I don't know what could be causing this on your system but it's
probably worth checking for potential third-party software conflicts.
You'll find the procedure for that, as well as other general troubleshooting
procedures here: <http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm>

You can also try resetting the Drawing Toolbar to the default (it's a long
shot). Go to Tools> Customize, select the Drawing Toolbar and click on
Reset.

You may ultimately have to remove and reinstall Office. If so, you'll find
that procedure at the above link as well. Be sure to do a full removal
first.

Hope something here helps.

Hi Beth,
thanks to your help, I managed to solve the problem.

It ended up being a problem related to preference files. I deleted all
the files in "~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft" and the problem
disappeared. (I might have been a little more "selective", but I did
not have any particular customisation I wanted to keep.)

thanks again!
