Word 2004 insert object powerpoint slide (Mac)

I need to be able to insert powerpoint graphics into word documents
that retain their powerpoint information and can be edited with
powerpoint. Although it was clumsy I was able to do this in my last
version of office. I upgraded and appear to have lost this ability.
What an improvement. I am using Office 2004 for Mac. I used to
accomplish this task by Insert - Object - Powerpoint Slide. What can
do to accomplish this with the new version?

thanks,
bryan

The last time I tried that, it crashed Word every time I tried to insert it.
Seems like I just had to Paste Special and pick a graphic format and then
redo if/when I had to update.

I'd be also be curious to know any tricks to make this work. Posting in the
Powerpoint NG might also get you some help.
