Word 2004 language not chosen?

Hi,

I have read and searched to the articles, and haven't found the
specifics yet...

The story is this... I have a friend in Ireland, I am in the U.S. and
I am trying to help help reslove a problem over the phone... not fun!!
LOL She just got today an iBook and MS Office 2004 from a store in
Cork, Ireland. (of course they say call Apple, Apple says call MS,
and MS says they don't offer support... that is what she said she did
before calling me.)

Okay, the problem being that her "toolbox" icon flashes and when she
clicks on it, compatibilty checker gives here an error Word can't
identify the language. (actually, I might have jsut figured it out...
she has Ireland selected, should she use UK or something? Anyway...
when we goto the Tools pulldown and choose Language, nothing is
selected. All the languages are there. I had her select some text,
then choose the English UK from the tools->language. it seemed to work
for that text. That tells me the dictionary etc works. I have
followed the suggestions to open the Normal template, select all,
clear formatting, change language, (I have used the default option
too). Then checked the styles, English UK was there. I saved the
file... quit word, restarted and back to the blinking toolbox and no
language selected in the tools->language box.

I have reinstalled, removed the prefs and apps... even created a new
admin user on the iBook. I am a Mac consultant and know the systems,
but the darn Irish!! LOL Please give me some direction or advice!!

Thank you so much for your time!

Mike

I did figure it out... it was that the system prefs->internation ->
Input menu had Irish selected for a language. This "language"
probably need to be downloaded from MS of something... anyway, I
changed that to English UK or British, or whatever worked for the
person there, and the spelling changed. I was then able to change
English US to English UK.

Thanks for all the help during researching archieves!
