Word 2004 & Leopard printing problem

Is anyone having compatibility problems with Microsoft Office 2004 and Leopard with regard to printing Microsoft documents?
Will upgrading to Office 2008 solve the problem?

I had this problem. Upgrading seems to have solved it. But the thing that was truly weird for me was when I upgraded to Leopard, everything was fine. It was only when I tried to install a new printer that it went whack. But I just got 2008 and (crossing fingers) it seems ok.

As John replied, upgrading to 2008 could solve your problem but it also
might not. In other words, no guarantees. There are many different printer
issues. What do you mean by compatibility problems? What kind of printer?
Is the printer driver the most current (check the printer manufacturer's
website)? Have you updated Leopard to 10.5.2?

Hi John & Beth
I appreciate all of your help. I was hoping there was a workaround so I would not have to spend anymore money. By compatibility issues I mean I am using an hp LaserJet 1300 that hp does not support anymore. I replaced the hp printer software to the latest and also updated the apple OS software to 10.5.2 The majority of the other programs I use print okay. What happens when I am in Microsoft word is that when I am prepared to print something I will hit print after which there is a delay and than the program quits. Thanks again.
All the best,

Hmmm. So Word 2004 quits when you hit print. I don't think that's because
it's an old printer. Nor do I think that updating to Word 2008 will help
(though I could be wrong). On the other hand, I'm not sure what the cause
is!

My best suggestion is to work through the standard troubleshooting
suggestions here: <http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html>.

Sorry not to be of more help. Printing issues can be very idiosyncratic and
tough.

I *wish* you hadn't updated to OS 10.5.2 :) That's what broke it :)

First, try making another document: very simple document, and try to print
that. We need to know whether it's "that" document or "any" document.

If it's just one document, the document is bad. If it's any document, Word
is bad.

Then try another application: if TextEdit can print, then the problem is
definitely Word.

Then try removing your printer entirely and re-booting.

Then put the printer back in and see if it works.

If not, you'll need all the things Beth sent you to. Work your way through
them in sequence, the sequence is important.

Hope this helps

Hi, I'm having the same problem printing from Microsoft apps since upgrading
to Leopard. (Crashing when attempting to print) All other Adobe and Apple
apps print no problem. Did you ever discover a suitable fix to this problem?

Not yet. There's a Service Pack due out tomorrow: we're hoping the fix is
in that.

That would be great. Is it a Microsoft service pack? I checked online and
tried auto updating today(March 11) but didn't see anything yet. (Maybe it's
not available in Canada until tomorrow...). But if you come across the
download url or more info on the pack, please post. Thank you very much!

The update only applies to 2008. I don't know when the 2004 update will be
available.

Sorry to raise your hopes :)
