Word 2004: Missing Dictionary (Encarta) from Word 2001

L

Lefti

In Word 2001 there was a "dictionary" menu entry which starts a local
small Microsoft Encarta with description of this words. I miss this
function and this menu entry in Word 2004. If I try to add the menu
entry this entry stays gray.

(How) can I use the good old dictionary from Word 2001 in Word 2004
or is there a newer version for Word 2004?

Thanx

I'm in Word 2001, but my dictionary (a floating window called up via Tools |
Dictionary) doesn't say anything about Encarta. How do you know it is an
Encarta dictionary?

Previous discussion of the Word 2004 dictionary suggested that a dictionary
in Word 2004 does exist and can be called up, but that it is not as good as
the one that was in Word X. Can you find a dictionary at all, or do you not
like the one you get?

"Dictionary" is right there in the Word 2004 Tools Menu. Select it, and out
pops the "Encarta World English Dictionary." There's also a button that will
send you the the online Encarta Encyclopedia, should you wish to look up
more info about any subject a particular word may refer to (assuming the
Encarta Encyclopedia as an entry for it).

Yes, the online-encarta works, but not everithing which is online is
better than a local solution. For finding difficult expressions and more
information Sherlock is much better than the Online Encarta. But for
short search for a meaning of a word to find a good synonym the small
Encarta in Office-X was really good. I really don't understand why
Microsoft doesn't bring a possibility to use this not-really-old part.

It seems they didn't think that one can update form Office-X. (It's the
same with Entourage-X database. On starting it will only import the old
Office2001 database and the Office-X one must be imported by hand).
