Word 2004 not adding ".doc" extension automatically

Hi:

I have an iBook running on 10.3.8 and out of nowwhere Word 2004 is no
longer adding the ".doc" extension automatically, even when this option
is checked on the actual software to do it every time.

I share Word documents with many people and can not afford to risk
whether the person receiving the message can or can not open the file.
And as you know, when a PC can't detect the ".doc" extension, it makes
it difficult to open the document.

Anyone finding this problem also? It started happening after the last
Office 2004 update.

I'll appreciate any response.

Thanks

Hey Elmo!

Just to clarify, when you say the option is checked, do you mean the
"append file extension" check box? If not, make sure you've got that
checked. It's in the "Save As" window. :)

Hope this helps!

Hi Elmo-

Did you run Disk Utility Repair Permissions after installing the update?
Panther is particularly fussy about that. If you don't already do so, you
might also want to get something like OnyX or at least its little brother
Maintenance in order to run the Cron routines periodically. I doubt you
leave tour iBook running overnight, which is when OS X runs them
automatically.

Hello:

Thank you for answering. Yes... I meant that I have the "append file
extension" check box permanently checked but for some reason it is not
doing it everytime. I've had to just pay attention to the file name,
check "append file extension" off and the check it back on to get
".doc" on my document. However, I don't think that in such an expensive
program, I have to do this almost every time. So if you now of a
solution, please let me know.

Actually, I do tend to leave the iBook on overnight. But I'll go ahead
and re do the Disk Utility today and see what happens.
