Word 2004 only pulling up read-only from server; cannot save

D

Dan Guadalupe

I brought my IMAC, OS X Panther, latest release, updated, to my office
(a Novell 6.0 environment). Everything worked fine for 3-4 days: I
could open files from the network and save them on the network. All of
a sudden, for the last 2 days, ALL office files on the network, word or
excel, for example, come up as read-only, and I cannot save on to the
network any longer. I repaired permissions, etc. to no avail. It is
definitely an Office issue because I can create new folders on the
network and I can save TextEdit files on the network as well. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling Office, also to no avail. I have searched
in newsgroups, mac support sites, etc., also to no avail. Any clues on
what is going on and any solutions?

Thanks.

Dan

This is an issue with Word and Novell Servers which needs to be fixed at the
Novell level. Prosoft's latest version does apparently fix the problem, but
we haven't had a chance to verify yet. You may consider contacting prosoft
for some documentation on what they have done to address the issue.

I have an office full of people having the very same problem, except
that we're running OS X Server 10.4, not Novell -- and we were having
the same problem when running Server 10.3.9. I had hoped the Tiger
upgrade would get rid of the problem, but no such luck...

I've rebuilt the privs on the server, and used the Server Admin to
reset all the permissions to ones that should be read/write for
everybody -- which they are, as people can, as the original poster
state, save TextEdit docs, &c. It's only Office 2004 v11.1.1 docs
which are the problem. (and 11.0 and 11.1).

Any other suggestions?
