Word 2004 Spellcheck Question

I have a 174,000 Word 2004 document that I am preparing to send to Great Britain (far too large to edit manually). Since the grammar and spelling conform to English (US), I have been attempting to edit the document to conform to English (UK) rules. Yet, although I set the language to English (UK) under Tools:Spelling and Grammar:Options(button):Language, Word tells me that the doc checks out, accepting words like "color", instead of insisting upon the British spelling.

Is there a way to force the Spell Checker to recognize that the idiom it's examining is incorrect?

For spelling & grammar purposes Language is handled as a formatting
attribute, so the input language essentially tattoos the text. If you tell
the spell checker to check for UK errors it won't find any unless the text
is "formatted" as UK English. If it's tagged as anything else the spell
checker will ignore it no matter how incorrect or improper it may be.

If the scenario you mentioned encompasses the entire document key Command+A
to select all, then go to Tools> Language & select English (UK) to mark the
text as such. Otherwise just select & mark the appropriate passages. Then
run the Spelling & Grammar check based on UK English.
