Word 2004: Style List / Style Dialogue Box Bug

Hello all -- I'm in Word 2004. Upon opening a new document, it defaults
to showing only a couple of styles in the style list. I want to be able
to see all of them.

Word Help suggests going to the Formatting Palette and selecting all
styles. This works, but I don't use the Formatting Palette that often.
The second option: View All Styles in the Style Dialogue box doesn't
work. This is the one I want to use. It tells users to go the the
Format menu and select Style command, then select All Styles on the
List popup menu. I did this and clicked apply, but when I go back to
the document, the same couple of styles appear.

I can go in and set/add an individual style which is then included in
the default, but there's go to be an easier way -- Is there a way to
change the default so that I don't have to do this for each document,
so that all styles automatically appear in the drop down box?? Thanks.

Word questions are better in the Word-specific group, just by the way.

Which style list are you talking about? The one on a toolbar, or the one in
the Format | Style dialog?

Which styles do you want to see? You sure don't want to see all, because
that's hundreds. I think the heading styles, Normal, and anything you've
created, modified, or used in that doc's template should show up in the
toolbar by default, I think it matches the "styles in use" list in the
Format | Style dialog.

Once you have modified them, if you checked "add to template", they should
show up for any doc based on that template (by default the template is
Normal and that would apply to all documents created after that)

You can force it to happen retroactively, but it doesn't by default.
