Word 2007/2003 issues

Here are some issues I am having with Word 2007:
- When I click on "Word Options," I can only access the "Popular" tab and
not the others such as "Display," "Proofing," etc.
- The vertical scrollbar does not work.
- Double-clicking on a Word icon opens the program, but not the file.

With Word 2003, I am experiencing aforementioned issue #02 and #03.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software but to no avail. Also, I
uninstalled Internet Explorer 7.

Have you got Off2003 and Off2007 installed on the same PC in the same
partition?

Yes, I do. Er, actually, I *did* have them on the same partition, but I
uninstalled off2003 and I still have this issue.

I did have Off2003 installed when I installed Off2007. The only Off2003 app
that I removed when I installed Off2007 was Outlook, so I could install
Outlook 2007.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well this is something to look at then. We have installed Outlook 2007 for a
few of our Help Desk users leaving the rest of Office 2003 in place (we are
still holding off updating completely to Office 2007 until all the templates
are updated and until SharePoint and Exchange 2007 are in place). I'll ask
our Sys Admin how we deployed Outlook 2007 on those machines first thing
tomorrow morning and I'll get back to you.

I uninstalled the Microsoft Office Professional 2003 first and then installed
Microsoft Office 2007.

also i forgot to mention that on another laptop, the issues with MS Office
2003 persisted even though I have not install MS Office 2007 on it.

Reregister Word 2003 and see what happens. From Start, Run, type in

winword /r

and press enter. Now open Word on the laptop: does it work correctly?

Terry-

What do you suggest for me? I'm having the same problem, but I only have
Off2007 installed.

TIA.

What version of Word 2007? Did you have any other version of W2007 installed
prior to the current version? Have you activated your copy?

Terry-

I have the Trial version and have ordered the full version. As soon as it
arrives, I will enter the keycode and activate it. Do you think that the
fact it is the trial version is causing this behavior? I sure don't know
they would turn off the vertical scrollbars and most of the custom settings.
That doesn't make any sense.

I appreciate all your help.

Well the settings for the vert + horiz scroll bas are under the Advance tab
in Options. If those tabs are greyed out, I would hazard a guess that is
almost certainly because the product hasn't been activated. This must be
something new to Office 2007.

Hi Terry,

I tried doing typing in the "winword /r" command on the laptops and it did
not remedy the situation. Also, how can I find out if my Office 2007 has
been activated? I know the Office 2003 is not a trial version so I still do
not see why this problem has suddenly popped up.

Word, Options, Resources Tab and select Activate. If you are already
activated, then it will report back as activated.

Terry-

I have now activated my trial version of Office 2007 (including Word) and it
has had no effect on my issue, which are:

-Vertical Scrollbar doesn't work
-only the "Popluar" menu in "Word Options" works; all others are locked or
inaccessible

Any ideas as to what may be causing this?
