Word 2007 and AZWizardModule compile error

G

GaryBell

Hello, new to discussion group, so please forgive any mistakes.

I just purchased a new computer with Vista 64. I transferred my files from
my old computer (which used XP Pro, 32 bit) to the new computer using PCMover.

MS Word works fine except that every time I open MS Word or open a new page
I get the following error: "Compile error in hidden module AZWizardModule". I
click "ok" and I can get to the page.

I have scouted the web and people have said it's from an Avery add-on. I
searched my computer for any reference to Avery and can't find anything. I
have Windows 7 coming soon. Will that fix the problem?

Any thoughts? I appreciate all your time and look forward to your reply.

The problem does come from an Avery add-in. The folder it's stored in
is marked as hidden by Windows, and the dirty little secret is that
Windows' search won't ever look in hidden folders unless you force it
to.

Open the My Computer program. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View.
Click the option to show hidden folders and files. (While you're
there, if the option to hide extensions is checked, uncheck it (this
is an important safeguard against malicious executables masquearding
as innocent documents).

Now you can navigate to the folder
C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
and remove the file (probably named AZWizard.dot, but I'm not sure
since I'll never allow that miscreant on any of my PCs).

I might add that you don't need the Avery wizard as all the Avery labels are
included in all versions of Word anyway.

That sounds like an excellent idea, thanks a lot. In Vista, I don't see a "My
Computer" icon, nor when I open MS Word do I see one. In XP there used to be
one. Am I missing something? It sounds like I am almost there.... Thanks
again,

Gary

I was able to locate where you wanted me to go. The "Start-up" folder under
Word (following your filepath) is empty. Any other ideas?

Appreciate your help,

Gary

Is the wizard listed under add/remove programs so that you can uninstall it,
or perhaps it has an uninstaller listed under Start > Programs > Avery?

Otherwise, try using Windows Search for AZWizard.

Perhaps it is in the Office Startup folder? I don't know where to tell you
to look for that one,though.

FWIW, in Vista what used to be "My Computer" is evidently just "Computer,"
if that helps at all.

Yes, it could be in the Office Startup folder, which will be at
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP

If you don't find it there, MVP Beth Melton wrote a comprehensive
article about hunting down Word add-ins. It's at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011514521033.aspx.
Despite the "Applies to" tag at the top of the article, most of it
also applies to Office 2007; and the advice about finding add-ins is
applicable regardless of whether you get the specific error message
mentioned at the beginning of the article.

Just install the AVERY wizard for the less Technical guys.. Make sure to not install the ASK Bar unless you want it. Should fix the problem.
