Word 2007 and HP

R

Rob

For months, every time I close Word, I get a dialog box informing me that it
has "encountered an error," and suggests I send information to Microsoft and
the box to restart Word is automatically checked for me (which is really
annoying). In parsing the error data, it seems the error is related to the
driver for my HP Photosmart C5280 printer (hpz3r5ha.dll). There is no update
on the HP site, but I have no idea why this would cause it to close.

I am sure that everyone will say this is an HP problem, but the printer
works WITH EVERY OTHER PROGRAM I HAVE.

I have downloaded Open Office, and am using that until I can figure out a
solution. Anybody?

(Word also goes into "Office configuration mode" periodically when I start
it, but that's a whole 'nother post).

This is a known issue with the HP driver. Word uses the printer driver very
heavily and finds bugs before other apps. Have you turned off the the show
thumbnail option (which sometimes resolves the problem)? Have you asked HP
for a solution? All I can recommend is that you install a different printer
driver and set it as default.

Hi,

Welcome in the gang of the owners of HP Photosmart printers with Office
2007. We have all the same problem as yours. The only way to resolve the
problem is to uncheck the HP printer as the default one and select manualy
each time you print.
But, today, I have seen theres a new driver from HP for us. Driver 10, if
you go to the HP page to find a new driver. I dont know if they resolve the
problem with Office 2007.

Hope that help you.

I installed the new version of the HP driver; alas, no luck. The problem
recurs. I'm going to continue bugging HP until they figure this out.

I would not mind unchecking the printer as the default, but I use other
programs to print far more than Word, so it makes it a pain to specify the
printer all the time in those applications.

Is there any way to make a different printer the default in Word versus the
global default printer setting in XP Pro?

You could attached an AutoExec macro to normal.dot which switches printer
when Word opens. But you would also need an AutoExit macro attached that
switches the default printer back when you have finished with Word. If you
try to print from something else when Word is open, it won't find the
printer. So altogether, it is a pretty mucky solution.

Summer is a HP Tech...
(short version posted below)

Brendon Mills: Please read the links to all the people who have this
issue. I have tried all the options: 1. repair Word 2. remove smart
web printing 3. reinstall the HP software 4. remove the startup
imaging application, etc. The only acceptible workaround is to not use
the all in one as the default printer
Brendon Mills: you have several hundred post included in the google
search. perhaps it is time for HP to examine the issue. What do you
think?
Summer: To resolve this issue , please install the alternate drivers.
Brendon Mills: the "alternative drivers" arfe found where? on the
installation disk?
Summer: The alternate drivers are inbuilt drivers of the operating
system.
Summer: Please follow the instructions to install the alternate
drivers.
Summer: 1)Go to Start, control panel , then printers and faxes
2)Double-click the Add Printer icon. Click Next.
3)If a message asks Local or Network, choose Local, then click Next.
4)Choose USB001 as the port, then click Next.
5)In the Manufacturers list, choose HP.
Summer: )In the Printer list, choose the HP Deskjet 990C printer, then
click Next.
7)The printer name should be listed as HP Deskjet 990C Printer.
8)Click Yes on Do you want your Windows based programs to use this
printer as your default printer? Then click Next.
9)Click No when it asks, Would you like to print a test page
(recommended). Then click Finish.
Brendon Mills: do I uninstall the existing, first?
Summer: Not required.
Brendon Mills: no print job executed
Brendon Mills: Anyway. We are attempting to use drivers that are not
supplied for the printer because the drivers that are supplied for the
printer are not compatible with Word 2007. That is the problem and
that is what HP need to fix. That is the point I (and the other 100's
of people mentioned in the Google Search) would like to discuss
Summer: Please right click on the printer icon>>properties>>ports tab.
Brendon Mills: USB virtual
Summer: Under that please select usb001 or virtual.
Brendon Mills: yes done - as instructed previously
Brendon Mills: both printers are listed USB
Summer: Fine.
Summer: Now try printing and let me know the results.
Brendon Mills: When do we get to discuss the fact that the supplied
driver is incompatible with Word 2007?
Summer: Okay.
Summer: Right now word 2007 is not included in the software.
Brendon Mills: Can you please show me where this is written?
Summer: Hp and Microsoft are researching on this issue.
Brendon Mills: Did you know that 1 hour ago - when I first opened this
session?
Summer: As the word 2007 is newly released and it is not added in the
all-in-one software.
Summer: Hp and Miocrosoft is researching on this issue , Please
contact the microsoft support.

Hi,

I think you can try a utility called Advanced Word Repair to repair
your Word document. It works rather well for my corrupt Word
documents. Its web address is http://www.datanumen.com/awr/
