I am having trouble with the help function: no help viewer, no contents, no
orange application spotlight.

and because help is less than functional---it's no help.

I don't have the beta, so I can't say for sure, but Help is often the last
feature to be added to a product before shipping.

Works here (F1 key), and there's a surprising amount of content already.
You get very different results depending whether you use the online or
offline help.
You can choose between both in the bottom right corner of the help window.

thanks. I generally use the online help.

although I like to browse through the help file and try out all the bells
and whistles (which I can't do here), I can live without that function---for
now.

Hi Grumpy,

In the Help Viewer in Word 2007 click the selector arrow on the 'Search tool' and switch from Online to Offline to see if the Help
menu and table of contents appear. If so, then switch back to the online choice and see if those stay and let you also search
Online content for Help.
