Word 2007 brother printer problem

My brother HL-2040 printer inexplicably, and rather often I might say,
looks to the bypass slot for paper when printing a document from word
2007. I have tried changing the default tray in the printer settings
to "Tray 1" from "Auto" to no avail. I have also tried to change the
Word print settings to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on what
might be happening? No other programs have this problem. Is this a
Word "bug"?
