Word 2007 - caption - weird number behaviour

When captioning my tables in a Word 2007 doc, in section 9 the numbers
go to 9-6. The next table should be 9-7 and is displayed correctly in
the cation window. When applied to the document though, it changes to
Table 0-1.

I cannot see any section breaks or anything else that would cause it
to misbehave like this. Any ideas?

PS. section numbering still functions perfectly.

How large is the document?

Press Alt+F9 to see what field codes are being used for the errant
numbering.

The usual method is to use a STYLEREF field to the number associated with
the most recent occurrence of Heading 1. Does the most recent occurrence of
Heading 1 have a number associated with it?

Is this document in .docx format or .doc format?

The file size is approx 1 MB

The field codes being used are "Styleref 1 \s - SEQ Table \* Arabic \s
1"
The same one are used for the correct and the incorrect numbering.

<<Does the most recent occurrence of Heading 1 have a number
associated with it?>> Yes. I can't see any problems with the heading
numbers.

We are sticking with .doc for now.

We found the problem!!

I highlighted my heading which was using the "Heading 1" style. Right-
click. Select Style>Select text with similar formatting
I then scrolled down my doc and found a blank line highlighted,
meaning it was using the "Heading 1" style.
Delete the line, and hey, presto, table numbering is back to normal.

I hope someone can benefit from my experience.
