Word 2007: commands disappearing from Customize Keyboard dialog

T

topdot

Using Word 2007 on Vista, a number of commands are no longer to be
found on the Customize Keyboard list or on the list of commands that
can be assigned to macros. this is very mystifying, and for a
keyboard junky, frustrating. If I run the List Commands command to
generate a list of all possible commands, all the commands appear, but
when I go to assign a keyboard shortcut, the commands on the list
between CSS Links and Decrease Indent are not there. I believe there
are other commands missing from these lists, but I can definitely
document these. Such commands as “Cut” and “Date Field” are simply
not to be found. They were there at one time, on this system and while
using this version of Word. I tried removing normal.dotm and having
Word re-create it, to no avail. I have installed all updates.

Any insights?

The command names in the All Commands list in the Customize dialog are not the
same as those in the result of the List Commands. They are, however, the same as
what you'll see in the Macros dialog (Alt+F8) when you set the "Macros In" box
to "Word commands".

For the specific commands you mentioned, Cut is present as EditCut, and Date
Field is present as InsertDateField. In most cases, the name starts with the
name of the menu that contained the command in Word 2003 and earlier. Microsoft
couldn't change that without breaking compatibility with macros and add-ins from
the earlier versions.

Thank you; I wasn't going to figure that out on my own. I found the
other commands I was looking for under Tools.
