Word 2007 Compatibility

Users of MS Word 2007 are not able to open my documents created in Word 2000.
Is this a know issue? would the compatibility settings in my word 2000
options make a difference? Compatibility is set to Word97 by default.

If you are saving your documents in the Word 97-2003 format, they should be
able to open them. Alternatively, they can download the Microsoft Office
Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats from

This is probably not your problem, but users of MS Word 2007 are not
always permitted by their administrator to open certain types of
documents, such as Word 2000 documents.

Also, it might be possible to install Word 2007 without installing the
necessary file converter (I'm not sure about that) that allows Word 2007
to open documents saved in the Word 97-2003 format.
