Word 2007 Contextual Tab Error

D

Dustin Jones

When I click in the Header or Footer or in a table, often the contextual tab
for these does not automatically appear and I have to click on another tab to
basically refresh the tabs and then the contextual tab will appear. Any idea
how to fix this?

I've never seen that issue (and I've seen most). For headers/footers, are
you "clicking" as you say, or are you double-clicking? I find that I have to
double-click, but once I do, the appropriate contextual tab is selected.

For tables, clicking any part of an existing table makes the Table Tools
item appear in the title bar, but I have to explicitly click the Design or
Layout tab if I want one of those to be selected.

Are you having a different experience? If so, it might be indicative of an
outdated display driver--i.e., Word 2007 depends on getting certain feedback
from the display driver about where the focus is, and is not getting it. Are
you using Vista or XP? Is there an update for your display driver available?

Dustin,
We are experienceing the same thing. If a picutre is selected, the
contextual tab does not appear until another tab is first clicked, then it
appears. Happens for several of our users

I've not seen this either. But would you test this with Word in Safe Mode
please?

From Start, Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Now open a document with a picture and click on the
picture. Does the contextual Picture tab open now?
