Word 2007 CPU 100% when editing Header/Footer with Track Changes

I have a 16 page document with TOC and Track Changes enabled. Opening,
editing, saving, updating TOC, track changes acceptance, rejection all work
fine. However, when I try to edit the Header or Footer, the CPU goes to 100%
(actually winword 99%) and I'm unsuccessful in completeing my header/footer
changes.

Running XP Pro, no mapped drives, 2gig ram, Office 2007 sp1, all the office
components are install (Groove, OneNote, Excel, OutLook, etc.)

Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?

Yes, it still behaves badly when Track Changes are off. But you response did
force me to look at other issues. Originally I created with document in
native (.docx) 2007 format. After I completed the document I had to
distribute it to other reviewers who had to see it in 2003 (.doc) format.
Since then I have been editing the 2003 (.doc) version. I just found if I
resave the .doc back as .docx then I can edit the headers/footers without the
CPU spike so I have a work around.

I hope this serves as a warning (or reminder) that if you save to the older
version for review by others that you revert back to 2007 format to continue
editing.

Sounds like you may have found a bug with legacy compatibility when working
from Word 2007. Perhaps Servicepack 1 has resolved the issue.
