Word 2007 Crashes Insert Symbol

When I click Insert Symbol in Word '07, the program promptly crashes. I'd
like to be able to insert symbols. I'm using Office 2007 Enterprise

In earlier versions, problems with symbols (or the Font, Print, Style,
Paragraph, Page Setup, or any other dialog related to the page appearance)
are usually caused by a problem with the printer driver.

After removing all printer drivers, I still experience the same problem.

Word needs to see a printer driver. You must install *some* (local) printer
as the Windows default.

As Suzanne says, you must have a local printer driver installed and set as
the Windows Default.

Then delete the Word DataKey which should resolve the crashing.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

I don't understand. If I have to have a printer as default, I have to use my
network printer. I don't know what to do about this since I don't have
another printer to set as default.

You can use the network printer, but you must have the driver for it
installed locally.
