Word 2007 Crashing

OS is XP Pro. Word crashes in the same spot - if I have a document open with
a table of contents and I click to scroll through the document, it freezes on
the second or third click down and crashes - reopens with recovered
documents. very strange...no problems otherwise. Any suggestions?

It is a corrupt document. Try opening use the Detect and Repair option. If
that doesn't work, try opening a new blank document and use Insert, File to
get the document into a new blank. If it still crashes, try opening it and
then use SaveAs and chose HTML or RTF format. Close the document and then
open it again and use SaveAs to get it back as a Word document again. If
that fails, come back for some further advice as there may be other ways to
save the document.

Thanks Terry, saving it in RTF and then saveAs back to word document seems to
work for existing docs. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Now this seems to
happen in every document that I create a table of contents, which I do often
.... any ideas why? Is that function itself corrupt?
thanks again,
Jason

The TOC tool is usually OK. Try a test. Start Word in Safe Mode, open one of
your documents and create a TOC. Can you scroll up and down past the TOC OK
now? To get into Safe Mode, go to Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. Test now. If it fails, then I suggest checking that you
have the latest drivers for your printer and graphics card: delete and
reinstall the printer, update the graphics driver if needed.
