Word 2007 defaults

I just bought a new Dell and Microsoft Office Small Business 2007. It
contains Word 2007.

Why does Word 2007 default to double spacing, font Calibri and font size 11.
It seem that many versions before the default spacing was single space,
default font was Times New Roman and font size was 12.

I would like to know why Word 2007 changed its defaults. Double spacing as a
default does not seem like standard business practice in letter writing.

Thanks in advance for any insight as to way Word 2007 changed its defaults.
