Word 2007 Delete Key inoperable

I installed Office 2007 about 8 months ago and have never been able to get
the delete key to work in Word. In works in the rest of the suite, but not
Word - which is of course where I would like to use it most!

Any suggestion?

In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Customize | Keyboard |
Categories: All Commands | Commands: EditClear. "Del" should
appear under "Current keys:". If it doesn't, then click in the
"Press new shortcut key:" box and press the Delete key. If the
Delete key is currently assigned to another function, then below
the "Current keys:" box will appear "Currently assigned to:
<function>", and you should navigate to that function and remove
the Delete key shortcut from it. Then assign the Delete key to
the EditClear function.

Glad to help. What's weird is that you say the Delete key has *never*
worked in Word 2007, because somebody had to have unassigned or
reassigned the Delete key in Word for this problem to occur.

I have the same problem and tried the above solution to no avail. Very odd
that the delete key doesn't work in Powerpoint either but works in Excel and
on my browser FF.

Any other suggestions to this very aggravating problem.

Thanks.
