Word 2007 display panes permanently disabled

In the Advanced Word Options Display settings, I increased the Style area and
pane width in Draft and Outline views to 4.66 cm.
Now I can no longer display the Styles or the Properties pane via the Office
button.
(I have since reset this view to 0 cm/ rebooted/ etc.)

I had this problem a few months back and recently did a complete reinstall
of Windows XP Pro, and reinstall of Office 2007, (since uninstalling and
reinstalling Office had no effect on correcting this problem) and everything
worked fine until I changed this setting.

Please advise how to fix this bug. I do not have the time for another
complete reinstall and reconfiguration of my new pc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't reproduce this error. Have you tried exiting Word and then deleting
the Data key in the registry? See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm.

Note that for Word 2007, the correct registry key is:
\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Sometimes, you may have to delete the entire Word key.

To verify, you are viewing the document in Draft view (and not Page Layout
view) in order to see the Style Area, correct?
