Word 2007 does not open any documents

When I double click a Word document (regardless of version) it does not open.
I can open the document by using the Open command within Word, but I cannont
edit the document. I ran the diagnostics and it says that everything is fine,
and I check for updates.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I spent most of my morning downloading this 'trial' Word software onto my
computer - but when I open a Word document, I cannot edit it. Have I wasted
my time and junked up my computer? Everything is there - mostly greyed out -
and when I try to do something, it tells me I need to purchase the product.
What happened to the 60 day 'trial' product???
