When I open Word by double-clicking a Word document from Explorer, when I
subsequently close Word, the user interface shuts down fine, but WINWORD is
left running in the background (shown in task manager, using up no CPU). If
I open Word first, then do File->Open and open a document, closing Word shuts
down as expected.
Additionally, with the first case above that causes the problem, after three
or four documents have been opened / Word closed (so there are 3 or 4
instances of WINWORD still shown as running in memory, despite no GUI), when
I try to open a 4th/5th document, Word does not start up until AFTER I have
killed off the rogue WINWORD processes still running.
Any ideas? I have no add-ins installed, and am NOT using an HP printer! I
have run the Office Diagnostics but it found no problems.
