Word 2007 editing problem

I am having a problem similar to one reported by "warnie88" a few days ago,
but the suggested solution did not work for me. I am able to open Word but a
blank document usually does not open. When I try to open an existing file
that document usually does not open. If I am able to get the file open I
cannot edit the document using the mouse/cursor. The keyboard seems to work
fine. There are no other problems noted in other Office Ultimate 2007
applications.

HELP!

Corrupted Word Data Key. Run Regedit, navigate to and delete the key. Word
will recreate a new one when it is next started.

Word DataKey

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data

As I stated in my post, that solution did not work for me. Perhaps I am not
correctly navigating to the key. When I run "regedit" and do a "find" for the
file specified below it does not locate that file anywhere on the computer.
Is there another way to "navigate" there?

Run Regedit and then navigate your way to the key by double-clicking to
expand the trees until you get to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data. Word MUST have
created the key.

Ahhhh... perfect! That worked like a champ. Sometimes the "technically
challenged" have a bit of trouble actually understanding the complete meaning
of clear instructions.

Thank you very much!

I'm pleased it is now OK.

Hey Terry,

I am having the exact same problem with MS Word 2003. I went the registry,
deleted the folder path you suggested. In my case it was 11.0. When I
restarted MS Word no luck. The registry returned as you said but it didn't
fix the cursor problem. If you have any other possibilities to what the
problem may be, I am welcome to any answers

This is an old post: please explain your problem. Are you able to edit a
document using the keyboard and have only lost use of the mouse?

I have only lost the use of the mouse. I can use the arrow keys just fine.
the mouse cursor (arrow) moves, but it will not relocate the text cursor, It
will not highlight text or anything. Deleted the registry like you told the
previous customer but no luck when it repopulated.
