Word 2007: Error 4248: no VB, not "runtime error..."

This is happening on my boss's computer. She is using Office 2007, and
says the probelm is specifically with Word.

If she opens Word, then opens the document, it works fine.

But if she just double clicks a Word file, or tries to open a word
file as an attachment from the office's email program, etc...

Error message is exactly this, in a tiny window with the title
"Error":
Error # 4248 was generated by Microsoft Word
The command is not available because no document is open.

She is not using Visual Basic program, and the error message does not
specifically say anything about a runtime, like the other error
messages I have looked up online.

Suggestios, anyone?

PROBLEM SOLVED:

SOLVED - here's a fun one. It was because of some software we were
using which added itself to the Word "Add-Ins." Funny thing is, it
works fine in Office 2003, but Office 2007 had all of the above
problems. The software hasn't changed in nearly 10 years, so we
should've looked at it sooner, but having no problems with all
versions of office since '97, it snuck up on us.

The software we were using was called Goldmine. GMLink is it's "add-
in" program, which brings data from the Goldmine software and auto-
propagates fields in Word. My advice to anyone else experiencing this
problem with word, not having Visual Basic programs in the mix, to go
ahead and check out the "Add-Ins" menu, and just try disabling them
one at a time. It's a rather quick way of troubleshooting that may
have been bugging you for a while, and it could be a seldom (if ever)
used add-on, which you could disable / delete all together anyways! :)
