Word 2007 file will not open

L

Lee

Having no previous trouble opening the file, when attempting to open the
document again I am presented with the following message:

The Office Open XML file '(file name)' cannot be opened because of there are
problems with the contents.
Details:
Semicolon expected

Location: Part: /word/document.xml, line: 2, Column: 807252

Any help on how to retrieve this file would be very helpful and much
appreciated, Even not in its complete form so to help with the document being
re-written. Thanks

I'm afraid there isn't much to offer without having some indication of which
version & update level of Word you're using or what operating system you're
running on, the nature of the file content, etc.

The source of your post suggests you're on a Windows PC but you've posted to
the group for Mac Word. If you are using Windows:

I'd say that document's pretty much cactus!

You can open the document and get the text out. First let's try the simple
way:

Use File>Open from within Word and specify "Recover text from any file" in
the "Type" or "Kind" box.

Report back if that doesn't get the text out for you.

Note: The error message indicates that the XML within the file is damaged:
what could have caused that? (Because Word can't!). How did that document
get to you?

The error message does not really make sense. By "column" it probably means
"character" (since and XML file doesn't have columns). If that's the case,
it indicates that the problem is some 800,000 characters (about 134,542
words) down the file...

Cheers
