try this...close everything, go to Start, Run, type %temp%, click OK. delete all the files. if you can't delete all of the files, you may have to restart then attempt to delete again. once you've deleted all the files try word again.

I have tried to correct this but to no avail
If it may shed more light on what the problem may be, my problem is that
word opens "half way". If I try to save, exit, change fonts or any other
command word hangs.
I can open any of the recently used files appearing in the menue, but I
cannot edit these files, save them again or anything like that
If I try to load a file from My Documents, word hangs.
Also, the copy and pase function is disabled
Outlook, Exel or Powerpoint function perfectly

I happened to come across another forum where it is suggested to check the
normal.dot file. I have searched my PV but no file with this name is found.
Where should it be and how could it "disappear"? Should it not be created
anew when MS Office is removed and reinstalled

in Word 2007, you're looking for Normal.dotm

If it is a normal.dotm problem, then you didn't read or follow
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm as recommended
in one of my previous replies.
However, running winword.exe proved NOTHING. You need to run
winword /a
and if it that works, it proves it could be anything as outlined in the FAQ.

Thanks - I did find the file. If I remove the Normal.
Thanks - I did find the file. If I remove the Normal.dotm file, I also see
that a new one is created with the appropriate time and date etc.
Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem all the way. If I start word
with Run Winword.exe /a all is well, I can save and edit files etc, and I can
exit word properly. However, when I start Word again, the problems persist.
One could almost think that word continues to write corrupt normal.dotm
files, but that can hardly be the case I guess. No add inns are in use. Any
suggestions?

No, this just proves that the problem is not with Normal.dotm.
No, this just proves that the problem is not with Normal.dotm. That leaves
as suspects the Registry, add-ins, and your printer driver. Go back to
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm and continue
the troubleshooting process.
