Word 2007 hangs when opening document

I've recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Everytime I
try to open a word document in Word 2007 with a desktop shortcut to
the file, it hangs. If I open Word first, then navigate to the file,
it opens immediately. I've re-installed office and installed all
office updates. Any ideas?

It's possible that the registry entry that tells Windows how to start
Word from a shortcut double-click is damaged. Uninstall/reinstall
cycles don't usually fix damage like that.

In the Start menu, click Run and enter

winword /r

Then click OK. This will run the Office installer in repair mode. Then
try the shortcut again.
