Word 2007 hangs when opening files from explorer

When I doubleclick on a word document in windows explorer, word 2007
needs 2 to 3 minutes to open it. I ran Word with /r and tried a
complete repair installation of Office. Alternatively, I unchecked DDE
in folder options / files types and removed the parameter /dde. All in
vain. Any idea? Aristide

How long does Word take to open (to a blank document)? When open, how long
does it take to open the same (you were trying to open in Windows Explorer)
document through File, Open? Is it the same delay for all documents opened
from Explorer?

Word opens right away (with a blank document). And from within Word,
any document opens right away.
From within Explorer, it takes 70 sec until Word opens, and another 75
sec until the document is shown.
Btw, all add-ons and all startup files except normal.dotx are
disabled.

This sounds like a 'path problem' Do you have a dead drive mapping set up in
Explorer? Is it possible that you have moved the template the documents were
attached to and that Word cannot find it?

Your idea comes close to my own vague considerations. However, I don't
have old drive mappings. At present, I can not imagine anything else
what Word might try to look up while it is no longer there. Many

What it may be looking for is the template that the document is attached to.
If that has changed name/location/deleted, then it will keep looking for the
template until it eventually times out and Word opens. If you are on a
network, this can be a very long time.

Is there a way of stopping a document looking for a template, I hav ethe same
issue in that a document has been created utilising a 2007 Template on a
'home' server and when emailed if you cannot 'see' this 'home' server Word
hangs until you get an option to press esc if your using 2007 but if your
still on 2003 you do not get the esc option so a wait of 15mins can occur.....

OpenOffice might be OK for simple stuff, but it's only partially compatible with MS Office.
