Word 2007 Has Stopped Workings Errors - Tried other solutions list

Situation:
A dime Word background appears then immediately a window:
"Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. Windows is trying to recover
your information" - the window changes to...""Microsoft Office Word has
stopped working. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a
solution - it freezes there so that the "Close Program button must be
clicked.
Then a window appears with the full path and says the file cannot be found.
Try typing it in again correctly - although nothing was ever typed in.

** I do have 2 addins - ScanSoft PDF Create and ACT! 7.0. I renamed the
scansoftpdf.dot file and it created a new one.

** This is a new machine with Windows Ultimate and Office 2007 - it was not
an upgraded system.

** I did install the compatibility pack or whatever it is as we do access
several Word 97-03 documents/files.

SOLUTIONS TRIED PER OTHER MSGS ON THIS BOARD TO NO AVAIL:
1. Corrupted Normal.dotm and/or Normal.dot. Rename them as
oldnormal.dotm/oldnormal.dot. (When upgrading to Word 2007, it reads and
uses an exsiting normal.dot, and creates normal.dotm.) You might need to
display hidden files/folders. In Vista on my machine, normal.dot? is located
here: C:\Users\Herb\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

**** Renamed both

2. Corrupted Word Data registry key. Rename or delete:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options

*** Deleted both

3. Corrupted Windows user profile (gulp). Try creating a new Windows user
and see if the new user experiences the same problems.

*** Created another user/admin and still have problem.

4. Tried winword.exe /a and it loaded but did not fix the problem.

5. There are no files in the Word Startup directory.

6. The network printer drivers are installed on the hard drive.

7. Have run the Office Repair Utility as well as uninstalled and re-install
Office 2007

Thanks Much!

** I do have the following COM addins
- ScanSoft PDF Create - I renamed scansoftpdf.dot file and it created a
new one.
- Acrobat PDFMakers Office COM Addin
- ACT! Documents Tab Add-in
- Business Contact Manager for Outlook
- Paperport PDF Addin
- SLP Office Support
- Zeon Word Addin (scansoft4 program)

Also started Word in Safe Mode, ran diagnostics, no problems. Closed Word
and tried to re-open - still have error.

Word will open without an error sometimes... but "seems" to be worse?

All of those have been proved as causing problems in Word 2007. They all
install custom macros in Word and all need updating as they were coded to
work with a previous version of Office. If ScanSoft (and/or others) keep
reinstalling themselves, then you will have to use the Control Panel,
Add/Remove Programs (or Programs & Features in Vista) to uninstall them
completely one at a time until you find the culprit (or culprits).

Is there a way to uninstall the Add-in from within Word or does that need to
be done via the program itself - which as you say I need to uninstall the
whole program?

Certainly apps like Adobe Acrobat let you just uninstall the macro add-ins
for Office. I'm not experienced with the others. But you should be able to
rename the xxxx.dot files that they place in Word Startup folder with
xxxx.bad which stops them from loading.

Hello Terry and Jerry,

I have been having the same trouble and it is driving me bonkers :) I end
up closing the user/log-on and restarting to get the problem to run. I have
installed some add-ons in word, do I just go back and uncheck the boxes to
uninstal/turn them off or do I ???

Thank you

Sometimes unchecking them works but often when restarting Word, they put
themselves right back again. Most add-ins are installed as templates in the
Word Start-up folder (to find the Startup folder, look in the File Locations
in Word). Just remove them all temporarily and test again. See my 'usual'
reply below...

Sounds like a bad third party add-in. Test by running in Safe Mode. From
Start, Run (Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document and test for editing and closing now. If it
is OK now, then you have installed something that has placed an incompatible
add-in in Word/Office.

See how to find add-ins

Hi and Thanks -

I uninstalled Scansoft creater4.0 and 1 other scansoft item 4.0 (???don't
remember the full name). I was hesitent to uninstall before because I did
not want to damage my OmniPage program. I hope this takes care of the
problem.

Thanksf or your advice
