Word 2007 Indexing Errors

I am trying to create a pleading with a table of content, table of
authoraties and index. The index has never shown the proper page numbers, and
when I try to cut the index it corrupts the table information. If I try to
open the file after I save it, I can't and the repaired verson of the
document I can open is completely messed up.
Any suggestions?

MS Office 2007 Home, Student Edition
Windows XP SP2 Home Edition

Out of curiosity, do you also have Word 2003 or a previous version also
installed?
