Word 2007 - Insert AutoText

I want to say thanks in advance to all of the MVP's out there. Thank you for
all of your assistance.

I guess what I'm looking for is confirmation of what I perceive to be the
new situation in Word 2007. In Word 2003, when I was in a Header and Footer
field in a word document, I could click on "Insert AutoText" and see the
following:

-Page-
Author, Page #, Date
Confidential, Page #, Date
Created by
Created on
Filename
Filename and path
Last printed
Last saved by
Page X of Y

However, now that I'm a header or footer in Word 2007, I do not see those
options. It looks like I have to build out all of the fields manually using
filed codes, which I access from Quick Parts. This looks like a step back to
me, since many of my users will not understand the code options.

I did notice that Beth Melton had posted a template to cover a few of these
things.

In short, am I missing something? Is there quick way to get all of the old
items back into the Quick Parts?

No, you aren't missing anything. There are some built-in header and footer
building blocks, accessible for example via Insert tab | Header (and Footer,
respectively), but none of them seems to include anything similar to the old
AutoText entries of Word 97-2003. It should be fairly easy to recreate them
though.

Hi Alex,

If you take a copy of a default Normal.dot from an older system and place it in the Word 2007 Document Building Blocks folder the
old entries should be available, although they will no longer be grouped by Word document styles as they were before. You can check
Insert=>Quick Parts=>Building Block Organizer once Word is restarted after putting that template in place. To avoid confusion
between that template and your usual 'Normal' template you might want to rename the template copy to something like
2003AutoText.dot
before putting it in the Building Block folder.

MS left the older entries out, in part, because they, along with the layouts of the older Letter, Fax and Newsletter Wizards (among
others) were considered dated in appearance, as far as their '21st Century Documents' marketing for Office 2007.

Bob/Stefan,

Thank you so much for your responses! They were extremely helpful! In the
end, here's what I did to solve the issue.

1) I created a new file - "autotext word 2003.dotx" (no quotes) - this file
contained the autotext entries that are missing in Word 2007.
2) Then I created a batch file which would copy the file from our network to
the following location:
"C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Document
Building Blocks\1033\autotext word 2003.dotx"

By doing this, the file is moved to the local profile. Now when the user
starts word and then opens the Building Blocks organizer, they will see it
there. Trying to place these autotext options under Header and Footer was
too daunting.

Thank you both for confirming that this Autotext is not contained in Word
2007! That was extremely helpful.

I really appreciate you both and all of the MVP's. You guys are lifesavers!
Without you guys I would have never figured this out.
