Problem: In my 20-page User Guide (with lots of embedded graphics and 10
shapes drawn over the graphics), Word reliably crashed when I tried to import
another graphic. When I opened the document using "Open and Repair," Word
reported that there were errors associated with the shapes, but they were
fixed. Unfortunately, when I save this "repaired" document, and then open it
with Open and Repair, it reports the same errors. So they're not fixed.
To recreate the problem in a blank document: Open a new document in Word
2007. Insert several shapes (arrows, rounded rectangles, lines, etc.). Save
the document and then, in the Open dialog box, select the document and choose
"Open and Repair". The "Show Repairs" dialog box indicates errors were
detected in this file, but Word was able to open the file by making the
repairs.
Save this document under another name, and again use "Open and Repair"
and you'll get the same errors.
I also tried the following: renaming my normal.dotm and letting Word
create a new template--no change in behavior. Plus, on another employee's
computer with a new installation of Office 2007, I still get the same errors
(actually two errors for each inserted shape arrowhead shape).
It's a definite bug that I hope can be fixed (since I'm a technical
writer for a software company and Word is usually quite dependable).
I'm using Word 2007 (12.0.6504.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000).
Thanks for your help.
