I have a client that has their docs lock up when saving in Word 2007. We
had
a temp workaround by creating a new profile which worked for about 6 weeks
but the problem is back. We have eliminated all the add ins, deleted the
word - data key in the registry, deleted and reattached the normal.dot
template. Other ideas?
If their printer is a network printer then it could be Word is unable to
locate the printer driver on the network. When you save a document, Word
pings the network printer in order to obtain needed information. The way to
rule this out is to 1) install any printer driver (a physical printer
doesn't need to be attached) and set it as the default or 2) remove the
network printer and reinstall it using the Add Printer Wizard so a driver
will be installed locally.
I encounter this myself the other day. It was odd, Word worked fine but
would hang upon saving a file. The odd part is we saved files prior to this
and didn't encounter the same issue. I suspect this was due to a caching
issue.
