Word 2007 -lost contents of file

Does anyone know if anything can be done to retrieve the contents of a file
my husband was working on? He reckons the contents suddenly vanished (he is
partially sighted and probably accidentally hit something). Would doing a
"restore" to an earlier date have any effect? And, no, the file wasn't saved.

If he hasn't closed the file, he can Undo to restore the contents. If he has
closed it, he's out of luck, I'm afraid. "Restore" does not affect data,
unfortunately--just applications and the Registry.
