Word 2007 page numbers in the TOC

If I choose to format my page numbers: - 1 -. then the spaces and dashes
appear in the TOC, is there a way to format the page numbers that way but
have them display in TOC as 1, 2, etc?

Are the dashes inside the {PAGE } field? What happens if you type them
outside of it instead?

Thanks, yes it is a format and it does work OK in the TOC if I type it
manually - I guess that is all i can do?

If you mean type the dashes manually, that's the way to do it. If you
mean type the page number manually, you'll get the same page number on
every page!
