Word 2007 Professional is crashing at open for no detectable reaso

For the past week or so, everytime I open Word to edit or even create a new
document it crashes with no specifc reason.

I run the Office diagnostic as suggested and there is no solution offered.
That is why I ended up here. I tested all my other Office applications and
discoved that Publisher is behaving the exact same way.

I have uninstalled and ran my computer without Office and did a hard drive
scan and defrag before I reinstalled. I have also done Microsoft updates for
Windows Vista and Offce 2007.

I am running on an HP Pavilion tx1210us on Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The
notebook did come with Office Home & Student 2007 trial installed, but I
uninstalled it (so I thought) before I installed Office Professional 2007. I
have also had trouble downloading templates for Word because the scan on the
Office Website sees the previous installation of the trial software,
apparently there are still traces of it that is causing it to come up as an
"unlicensed" version. I am so frustrated.

Ideas anyone?

First clean up after the crashes as a temp folder full of abandoned files
can cause repeated crashes on their own. See
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm for some tips on
cleaning up.

The crashes may have several possible causes. Most likely are a problem with
the printer driver or an incompatible third party add-in. Check at the
Internet support site for the printer manufacturer for the latest driver,
then delete and reinstall the printer.

The normal.dotx may also be partially corrupt: try renaming it as
normal.bad.

If the problem persists, check in the Word Start-up folder to see what
add-ins are listed. Temporarily remove them all from the folder and then run
Word to see if the problem has gone. If it has, reintroduce the add-ins one
at a time until you find the problem.

Note that you may have to clean up again if the crashed persist whilst
testing.
