Word 2007 prompts to save changes to templates

Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP2
Software: Microsoft Word 2007
Error/Message: "You have modified styles, building blocks (such as cover
pages or headers), or other content that is stored in "Letterhead with logo
(electronic).dot." Do you want to save change to "Letterhead with logo
(electronic).dot"?"

The message listed above appears when closing a document that was created by
opening one of our company template (.dot) files.

The documents I was closing were created from a new template (.dotx) which I
had made from a template (.dot). Note that this dialog box refers to that
grandfather template.

Do we have to recreate our templates from scratch to avoid this?

How can we keep Microsoft Word 2007 from tempting everyone to make changes
to the company templates? How can we prevent this message box from
appearing? I can lock down the templates using NTFS permissions to prevent
changes but Word still presents the message.

This shouldn't happen. Does the template contain any macros? It sounds like
there's a macro in the template that is altering an AutoText entry (which
are now called building blocks) and that's what is triggering the prompt.

Also, how are you using the template? Are you using the New option and
creating a new document based on the template? Or are you opening the
template, making changes, using Save As and changing the file type to a Word
Document?

The reason I'm asking is because you said the issue occured when you were
"closing a document that was created by opening one of our company
templates".
