word 2007 red underline text

My mother-in law when typing in word 2007 sometimes hits the shift + enter
buttons at the same time. All of a sudden the texts turns red and has a line
through it. I can't remove it. Off to the left side there it looks like a [.
What is this called and how do I remove it? When I click left click it askes
to to remove inserction?

It isn't shift+Enter, it's Ctrl+Shift+E (probably because she's accidentally
pressing the Ctrl key while trying to type Shift+E). That turns on Track
Changes, which behaves exactly as you described.

equivalent buttons are in Tracking group and the Changes group on the Review
ribbon.
