Word 2007 refusing to close

Word 2007, Vista Ultimate, ThinkPad T61
-------------------------------------------
This event will occur repeatedly with Word, then cease for a few days, then
begin again. I haven't found the connecting elements as yet.

1. I have been working on a Word document, saved it, and clicked on "exit"
to close Word.
2. Word closes down and a message appears saying an error has occured
forcing Word to close.
3. Usually a message appears saying that a certain (long name) .tmp file
can't be found.
4. Word then restarts.

I don't want it to restart and I have no idea what temp file it's looking
for.

Any thoughts?

When this happens, does Word reopen correctly? Does it close correctly if
you don't do anything else after it has reopened other than select Close? If
it still repeats the problem, what is the temp file name, is it always the
same and is it a local file or one on a network?

I am having similar problem. I get error message when closing any word
document w/option to send to Microsoft and check box to recover work.
Document appears to save correctly whether I recover, or not & word re-
opens to blank document. I've tried re-naming normal.dot & removing
registry key to no avail. 'Am curious about cause & remedy. Randy
