Word 2007 "Security Warning"

M

MikeMoney

I just started to notice this when I open certain documents. I get a bar
below the ribbon saying "Security Warning Macros have been disabled."

I believe this means the document I am opening has a macro in it, which
concerns me because I don't do anything with Macros. I have run all kinds of
virus scans and nothing has come up.

I've looked at my Macros and don't see any there at all. How can I figure
out what is attempting to run when I open these certain documents and how it
got there?

If you are seeing the Message Bar with the Macro warning then there is
something in the file, a VBA Project, which is causing the Message Bar to
surface. If you're certain macros should not be in the file then save is as
a Word Document (*.docx). Doing so will remove the VBA Project causing the
issue. As for how the macros, or the project ended up in the document, it
could have been caused by a number of things.

Note that if the document is saved in a Word 97-2003 format you can still
Convert the file to the new file format (you'll find the Convert command
under the Office Button) and once the macros have been removed you can
downgrade the file back to the Word 97-2003 format.
