Word 2007 should let me change the font of formulas in the ribbon

Q

I entered the Pythagorean formula in a Word 2007 document from the equations
tab in the insert part of the ribbon, and I was not allowed to change the
font of the formula from Cambria Math to anything else. Does anyone know why
this is and maybe how to change it?

Suzanne,

I am wondering if the problem I experienced was an error with Microsoft Word
2007. I tried navigating through several links on the Microsoft website and
this was the closest thing I found to either trying to find a solution to my
problem, or letting Microsoft know that there is an error with the program.

One way to report errors is to use the Send a Smile add-in to send a frown.

Hi Jade,

I may not have this one figured out completely, but my understanding is that you can use the color, underline and other effects from
the right click 'Font' choice within an Office 2007 equation and also apply it to 'Normal text' within that object, but for the
actual equation elements if you select the equation then try to apply a font that doesn't support all of the needed math symbols
then Word won't actually make the change of fonts (even though in the Beta it looks like it did when you're leaving the dialog) to
keep you from ending up with a lot of the old 'hollow square' characters where you'd prefer to be seeing your equation <g>.

While you have an Office 2007 Equation selected click on the Equation Tools' tab above the ribbon and on that ribbon click on the
launcher [square on the bottom right of the 'Tools'] group to see if there are any math enabled fonts listed in the 'Default' font
choices. If I recall, Cambria may be the only one at present that's in the Beta.

When you're in that options dialog take a look at the Math Autocorrect tab. You can use those in your regular document to build
equations outside of an equation region (cell) and format those with text although it's a bit clumsy to do so in part.
