Word 2007 - Slooooooowwww Document Navigation

R

First day using Word 07 and I like it! But I am having a major problem with
my cursor pausing and the hourglass popping up continuously as I navigate my
documents. Tried a lot of different configurations of options but can't seem
to nail down the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

This is most often due to an incompatible printer driver or graphics driver.
Check that you have the latest driver for both and update if necessary.

Thanks for the prompt response Terry. I updated both but the problem
persists. I can type forward without a problem but whenever I go back to edit
the text or just try to move back over the typed text, the hourglass pops up
after every keystroke. This is extremely troubling and serious enough to make
me want to return my software for a refund. If anyone has any other
suggestions, please, please reply to this email.

Thanks,

Terry - Thanks for the prompt reply. I updated both but still have the
problem. I am able to type new text without pauses but whenever I move my
cursor back over text that has already been typed, there is a pause and the
hourglass pops up literally after every key stroke. This problem is serious
enough that I will probably return the software for a refund unless it can be
corrected.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing from
you.

Thanks.

What happens if you run in Safe Mode: from Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Are you able to work normally now?

Thanks Terry. That was a very good suggestion. I finally got through to MS
Word Tech Support yesterday and they were able to determine that an add-in -
orgplus - was causing the cursor delay. The tech support person, Patrick, was
excellent - very thorough and professional - and one of the first things he
did was have me run in safe mode using the command winword /a (I didn't even
know there was a safe mode for Office 2007!). I think you would have gotten
me to the same point through your troubleshooting but as a writer, I was
becoming desperate so needed to spend the hour or so that it took on the
phone to get a solution.

Thanks Terry! I really appreciate what the MVPs do for the user community!!

It is a pleasure to see someone from an add-in supplier coming in and
acknowledging a problem. Apart from Bob Matthews of Design Science (Math
Type), I don't believe I remember every seeing another. Thank you.

Hi Terry,

Ironically, both of those companies provided add-ins for MS Office/Word that MS has since decided to 'do in-house' now as part of
the product. http://orgplus.com (originally part of 'Banner blue') was the prior org chart app (and their upgraded one has a lot of
the features included that folks find as frustrating limitations in the Office/Word org chart feature set) and similarly with MS
Equation Editor vs the fuller featured http://mathtype.com product.
