Word 2007 spacing in numbered list.

Oboy, just about to tear out my hair. I have a numbered list imported from a
previous version of Word. Things didn't look right, so I saved it as a .txt
file, but all the formatting seemed to stay anyway. My problem right now is
that I'd like to put a 6-point space either before or after each of the
numbered paragraphs, but it won't do it... the view doesn't change. The
'Format Paragraph' box says that there are 6 points after, but it's just as
close to the next one as it was before; that is, the same line spacing as
between lines in the paragraph. If I reset the numbering to "None," then the
spacing appears. But when I then reformat numbering, things bunch up again.
Where on that @#&*# 'Ribbon' am I missing something? I never had this issue
with Office 2003! Help, please.

The List Paragraph style, I believe, has "Don't add space between paragraphs
of the same style" enabled.

In the Paragraph dialog box, clear the check box next to "Don't add space
between paragraphs of the same style."

Hi, Stefan,

That's a good idea, but the box isn't checked. I know that I was able to
space after numbered-list paragraphs in Word 2003, but this one just won't do
it. Any other suggestions? May I send you the single page that needs the
extra space and see if you can do it? There must be something in my setup
that's not right, but I can't find it.

Further to my last post, I just tried this again starting with a blank page.
I typed five short lines, each a paragraph. I then highlighted them all and
went to Format/Paragraph/6points after. That worked fine, the lines spread
out. I then highlighted the lines again and told Word to make a numbered
list. It put numbers before each line, but the lines tightned up again. The
6 points after didn't hold! The same thing happens when I simply bullet the
paragraphs.

In Word 2007, the setting is in the List Paragraph style.

This is probably because the List Paragraph style is being applied as you
apply numbering to text. In the Modify Style dialog box (for that style),
click Format, Paragraph. Clear the check box next to "Don't add space between
paragraphs of the same style" option. Use "New documents based on this
template" to transfer the setting to your template (which will be the Normal
template unless you chose a different one).

To avoid the issue in the future, you can do the following: In Office button
| Word Options, Advanced category, select the "Use Normal style for bulleted
or numbered lists" option.
